For this newly built apartment with a view of the Danube, the concept was to bring back the mood of lakes and rivers into the big city, letting pastel blues and greens dominate, and to liven up the apartment with colors and atmosphere.

By making the best use of the kitchen’s floor plan, we managed to create a work surface of the right size along with sufficient storage space. We were bold with the blue color, broken only by the ribbed glass-front cabinets and the sliding glass backsplash.

The solid wood table is a beautiful piece by Edelholz, while the custom, made-to-measure sofa is a product of the Hungarian company Hannabi. Due to the smaller size of the living room, the footstool — with its color-matched, removable tray — also doubles as a side table.

Oak-effect decor connects every room of the apartment, reappearing on the living room wall as well, which has also been given accent lighting.

The paintings on the wall are the work of rrm.hu (Réka Rebeka Rácz).

We toned the colors down a bit in the other rooms, since these are mainly bedrooms, but the blue and pastel green of water return here too. Each of the two bedrooms has its own bathroom, designed to match in color. The green bedroom is a calm, secluded “island,” which also received a small home office corner — if a weekend absolutely must be spent working, at least it’s in a pleasant setting.

The floor and wall tiles in the bathrooms were pre-existing, and we had to work around them, but the white background perfectly highlights the accent colors.

One wall of the entryway received a full-width, asymmetrically cut, beveled bronze mirror, which helps visually expand the narrow space; on the other side is the usual built-in wardrobe combined with a seating bench, which conceals not only shoes and coats but also cleaning supplies. The electrical distribution box is hidden inside the wardrobe as well, so it’s out of sight too.
